September 26-28, Urban Studies graduate student Mica Jamison presented on the methodology for their Master’s thesis at GenUrb’s Feminist Exploration of Urban Futures Conference at York University. Jamison presented, “How do we get from here to there? Exploring queer methodologies for transit research,” as part of the Gendered Mobilities III session.
While much of the existing gendered mobility literature examines cisgender women as subjects and safety, fear, and violence as themes, Jamison’s research looks to center the voices of transgender and nonbinary people and to focus on how they remake their city while traversing it. Innovative participatory methods are necessary to answer these questions and other research projects in mobilities studies, queer studies, and urban studies.
