Urban Studies Institute Alum, Austin Harrison, and Professor Dan Immergluck have been investigating different types of investors in Single-family rental (SFR) properties in Memphis. Findings show institutional investors are more likely to buy properties that are newer, in better condition, located in Black and Hispanic neighborhoods, and with a lower poverty rate.
The authors suggest results “cast further doubt on the notion that institutional SFR investors will, by themselves, further responsible rental housing investment and preservation (16).”
