The Urban Studies Institute at Georgia State University has the following vacancies and is looking for individuals that want to take advantage of the urban studies opportunities here in Atlanta.
USI conducts top-level urban research, offers an innovative and specialized interdisciplinary curriculum, and engages with stakeholders in metropolitan Atlanta and in other cities around the world. The Institute’s research agenda ranges from local to global, from urban theory to policy research.
Research themes emphasize urban economic resilience, inclusive development, and urban sustainability. The Institute was founded in 2017 and there we are constantly growing to add new, urban studies opportunities. It is housed in the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies and its research and teaching engagements reach across the University. It is presently composed of six tenured or tenure track faculty, three postdoctoral researchers, and 25 affiliate faculty from a range of schools and disciplines.

The Urban Studies Institute within AYSPS is seeking to hire a part-time (with benefits) Administrative Specialist-Admin to manage registration, academic matters, and events for the department. This position reports directly to the Business Manager I and would support the Graduate Program Director as needed. The successful candidate’s scope of responsibilities will include, although not limited, to the following:
- Use of banner and slate systems, management of student academic matters for the department.
- Assisting the GPD with committees related to admissions or scholarships
- Assisting in the organization of lecture series for the department and execution of events
- Maintenance of the department’s website and social media.
- Perform other professional duties as assigned by the Director of the unit or BM I.

The Urban Studies Institute within AYSPS is seeking to hire a Business Manager I to manage the business, budgetary/financial, personnel, and grants administration for the department. This position reports directly to the Director and would supervise one additional administrative staff person. The successful candidate’s scope of responsibilities will include, although not limited, to the following:
- Management of all aspects of the financial affairs of the department with budgets including slate funds, sponsored funds, and foundation account funds.
- Approving expenditures using Spectrum and PantherMart and conducting monthly expenditure reviews.
- Overseeing faculty and staff hiring ensuring all policies and procedures are followed including coordinating office set-ups for new faculty and staff, including workstations.
- OneUSG system approvals for bi-weekly non-exempt employees and monthly Reports of Absence for exempt faculty and staff.
- Assist in pre/post-award logistics for sponsored funding and grants
- Supervise one part-time staff, including assigning work and evaluating performance.
- Administer policies and procedures for the department and ensure all college, university, and Board of Regents policies and practices are followed.
- Perform other professional duties as assigned by the Director of the unit.
