- Biography
Chetan Choithani is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Urban Studies Institute. For his PhD, he received the highly competitive ‘Prime Minister Australia Asia Endeavour Postgraduate Award’ of the Australian Government. Chetan’s doctoral research examined the role of migration as a rural livelihood strategy in influencing household food security outcomes, within the broader frameworks of poverty, inequality and vulnerability. Before his PhD, he completed a Master of Population Studies from the International Institute of Population Sciences, Mumbai, and a Master of Arts in Globalisation and Labour from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. His research and teaching interests include various aspects of demography and health, migration and urbanization, food and nutrition security, rural and urban livelihoods, and how they relate to development, particularly in the Indian context.
At USI, Chetan will be part of the research project on urbanization and development linkages at the lower echelons of India’s urban hierarchy, at rural-urban transition zones, and lives and livelihoods at these transition places. Prior to this, he worked as Assistant Professor at IIHMR University, Jaipur.
Chetan likes cricket and his most favourite game format is gully-cricket, played on the streets of India!
